Discoloration
Types of discoloration:
Sun
Spots
stagingr or age spots (called lentigos) are
a product of cumulative sun exposure. They frequently occur on
areas of the face, neck, upper chest and arms.
Post
Inflammatory
A darkened area that occurs after
injury to skin from acne, rashes, and/or generalized skin
trauma.
Freckles
These lesions are a
result of the body’s natural response to sun exposure.
Freckles will often fade when the causative factor is
diminished or eliminated, sunscreen protection from damaging
sun.
Melasma
This darkening of the
skin is often caused by the female hormone, estrogen. This can
be a normal occurrence in pregnancy. This skin discoloration
can also be caused by estrogen containing
contraception.
