LASER SKIN REJUVENATION:
Fotofacial
WHAT IS SKIN REJUVENATION?
Our skin
is the most visible sign of our aging. As skin ages, it
becomes thinner and more laxed. Collagen and elastin, the
tissues that keep the skin firm, become weaker and due to
gravity the skin begins to sag. Furthermore, due to a lifetime
of sun exposure, superficial blemishes may become more
noticeable. The goal of skin rejuvenation is to restore skin
to a more youthful look by helping reduce the appearance of
aging and sun damage.
HOW DOES LASER SKIN REJUVENATION
WORK?
Laser stands for "light amplification by the
stimulated emission of radiation." Lasers work by producing an
intense beam of bright light that travels in one direction.
The laser beam can vaporize and remove wrinkles, scars, and
blemishes; seal blood vessels; or go deeper into skin tissue.
There are two categories of laser: ablative and
nonablative.
Ablative lasers work by removing the top layer of the
skin, the epidermis. The subsequent layer under the epidermis
(the papillary dermis) is heated by the lasers to cause them
to regenerate collagen, the substance that makes up skin. This
causes an obvious wound that heals with smoother and more even
skin. There are three types of ablative lasers used for
resurfacing: carbon dioxide (CO2), erbium:YAG, and long pulsed
erbium:YAG. The down time required for patients who undergo
ablative laser skin rejuvenation can be 7-14 days.
Non-ablative lasers have become enormously popular
because they require little to no healing time. They work by
by-passing the surface of the skin and treating the layers
underneath with heat. This allows the skin to respond as if it
was repairing a wound and regenerate new skin, with no damage
to the outermost layer of skin. Non-ablative procedures pose
no downtime and recovery. They will require more sessions for
optimal results.

understand that your time is valuable and thus offer skin

ablative lasers. We feel that you can look your best without
